Two steps forward, one step...

In recovery, there will be steps back.  Thankfully we have experienced steps forward, making the steps back less painful.  Today, Shelton was supposed to go on his first "field trip" and leave the hospital for the first time since the incident.  He has learned how to get himself out of bed completely independently and can now put on his shoes all by himself.  It's the little things that seem so simple that have now become complex for him.  He can do it though.  He's really trying and that's all he can do at this point so we are thankful for this.  He, however, did not get to go to the mall because he is a little sick.  His stomach is still having trouble completely processing food and some blood work he had done revealed that his pancreas isn't functioning quite right.  They did a CT scan just to check on the insides that were worked on a couple of weeks ago and it came back clear.  The levels aren't too concerning and they will check them again tomorrow, but any setbacks in being able to do "new" things are disappointing.  We keep high hopes and spirits though.  Continue to pray as we move forward.

The rest of us are keeping on, keeping on.  I was going to head up to the hospital yesterday but I'm definitely fighting something off right now (upper respiratory in nature) and the last thing he needs right now is any germs I might have to share.  Pray that I can shake this so that I can head up there tomorrow as soon as school is done.  Nobody has time for germs or sickness right, now and that includes my tired little family.

If you think about it, please pray for my little man's teacher.  All teachers are growing weary, as only 3 days of going outside for recess since Christmas break is causing all the little children to act like caged animals, Cooper included.  It's been a rough week for him.  We've been dishing out consequences around here and are trying to stay on him, and now we pray for self-control for him and an extra measure of patience for her!  God bless all kindergarten teachers out there, you are a special group...to be sure!!!
